Narrative:

During gear retraction; we began to notice what seemed to be smoke odor. We called the cabin; and the flight attendants said they could smell it also. While we were talking; the aft smoke detectors began to go off and a smoky haze was becoming visible in the cabin. We declared an emergency and returned to land. QRH procedures were accomplished.
