Narrative:
On sat, jan 1988, I was returning from nassau to ft lauderdale executive airport. At approximately 12 mi east I called executive tower for landing instructions, however, I was unable to make contact. When I was approximately 9 mi east I called again and this time the tower told me there would be a 10 min delay and I should remain clear of the airport area. I proceeded nwbnd and called pompano tower for permission to fly overhead. Permission was granted. After approximately 10-15 mins executive tower called me and asked me my position. I told them I was northwest over the sawgrass. After a few more mins executive tower called and said I had an small aircraft at 2 O'clock and I should follow him, I acknowledged sighting him. I proceeded to follow the small aircraft till about 2 mi from the approach end of runway 8 when the tower called and said I should make a right 360 degree. I proceeded to make a 360 degree and we were cleared to land which was uneventful. After clearing customs the airport security told me to call the executive tower on the telephone. After parking my airplane I called the tower and they told me another pilot had reported a near miss and that the chief controller would be calling me. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. Pilot following traffic as assigned, never saw other aircraft, did not know of possible near midair collision until talking with tower. A lot of traffic when arriving, not comfortable with amount of traffic ATC handling.
