Narrative:
This was my first trip since the new runway 27R opened at ord. Coming back from asia; we usually fly the janesville 4 arrival; and approach always said 'expect runway 22R' if that's one of the landing runways. I don't accept that; since runway 28 is also in use in that confign and I'm flying a B747-400. We can safely land on runway 22R; as long as everything works. Sometimes I get a little attitude from controllers when I say 'air carrier XXX needs runway 28.' on a snowy day; we contacted approach and were told; 'expect runway 27R.' so now we've got 2 short runways they try to get you to take; while at the same time there are dozens of rj's landing on runway 28. We didn't get any lip about it; and I have no problem telling them we need runway 28; but ord is always expecting us to just accept the shorter runways. I'm not about to do that; but they need to be aware that most of the 777 and -400 capts aren't going to take a shorter runway just to make it easier for them to push all the small jets coming in from the south and east onto the long runway.

Title: B747-400 CAPTAIN EXPRESSES DISPLEASURE AT THE ROUTINE ASSIGNMENT OF SHORTER RUNWAYS AT ORD FOR LANDINGS -- PARTICULARLY IN INCLEMENT WEATHER -- WHEN LONGER RUNWAYS ARE IN USE BUT ARE INCONVENIENT FOR ATC TO ASSIGN.
Narrative: THIS WAS MY FIRST TRIP SINCE THE NEW RWY 27R OPENED AT ORD. COMING BACK FROM ASIA; WE USUALLY FLY THE JANESVILLE 4 ARR; AND APCH ALWAYS SAID 'EXPECT RWY 22R' IF THAT'S ONE OF THE LNDG RWYS. I DON'T ACCEPT THAT; SINCE RWY 28 IS ALSO IN USE IN THAT CONFIGN AND I'M FLYING A B747-400. WE CAN SAFELY LAND ON RWY 22R; AS LONG AS EVERYTHING WORKS. SOMETIMES I GET A LITTLE ATTITUDE FROM CTLRS WHEN I SAY 'ACR XXX NEEDS RWY 28.' ON A SNOWY DAY; WE CONTACTED APCH AND WERE TOLD; 'EXPECT RWY 27R.' SO NOW WE'VE GOT 2 SHORT RWYS THEY TRY TO GET YOU TO TAKE; WHILE AT THE SAME TIME THERE ARE DOZENS OF RJ'S LNDG ON RWY 28. WE DIDN'T GET ANY LIP ABOUT IT; AND I HAVE NO PROB TELLING THEM WE NEED RWY 28; BUT ORD IS ALWAYS EXPECTING US TO JUST ACCEPT THE SHORTER RWYS. I'M NOT ABOUT TO DO THAT; BUT THEY NEED TO BE AWARE THAT MOST OF THE 777 AND -400 CAPTS AREN'T GOING TO TAKE A SHORTER RWY JUST TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR THEM TO PUSH ALL THE SMALL JETS COMING IN FROM THE S AND E ONTO THE LONG RWY.
