Narrative:
On departure out of iah 14L, tower gave a 260 degree heading climb to 4000'. Departure control gave 270 degree heading, climb to 15000' direct aus when able. Passing through 6500' departure control gave us immediate turn to 300 degree heading and after I acknowledged he said maintain present altitude. We leveled at 7500' (approximately) and were just above the tops of the clouds. In the turn second officer spotted the bottom of the conflicting aircraft (an air carrier large transport or medium large transport) also in a right turn away from us. We estimate the aircraft passed about a mile south of us and a little below.

Title: ACR-LGT ALLOWED TO CLIMB THROUGH ALT OF ACR-MLG RESULTING IN LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION.
Narrative: ON DEP OUT OF IAH 14L, TWR GAVE A 260 DEG HDG CLB TO 4000'. DEP CTL GAVE 270 DEG HDG, CLB TO 15000' DIRECT AUS WHEN ABLE. PASSING THROUGH 6500' DEP CTL GAVE US IMMEDIATE TURN TO 300 DEG HDG AND AFTER I ACKNOWLEDGED HE SAID MAINTAIN PRESENT ALT. WE LEVELED AT 7500' (APPROX) AND WERE JUST ABOVE THE TOPS OF THE CLOUDS. IN THE TURN S/O SPOTTED THE BOTTOM OF THE CONFLICTING ACFT (AN ACR LGT OR MLG) ALSO IN A RIGHT TURN AWAY FROM US. WE ESTIMATE THE ACFT PASSED ABOUT A MILE S OF US AND A LITTLE BELOW.
