Narrative:
The first officer showed the mechanic a crack in the #2 engine. Tai exhaust vane. The mechanic entered the crack in the aircraft log. We were told that the crack would be carried forward. We verified on the radio that maintenance was complete and we were good to push and they would send a new release. We pushed but there was some delay getting our release. We inquired and we were advised maintenance was conferring with line maintenance over the crack. We received our release and started our taxi. On the way to ZZZ1 we received an ACARS from dispatch advising that he was going to make a log entry regarding how the crack was carried forward and have maintenance in ZZZ1 evaluate the crack. In ZZZ1 we learned the crack apparently should have been stop drilled at ZZZ. Repairs were made in ZZZ1 and we came back to ZZZ on flight X. I also discussed this situation with the flight manager while on the ground in ZZZ1. Flight manager told me he would have ZZZ maintenance meet the aircraft when we got back to ZZZ to review the situation. When we got back to ZZZ; maintenance was not there.
