Narrative:
After about 10 minutes in stable cruise between iad and ZZZ1; #2 engine oil quantity started to fluctuate between 3-12 quarts. Fluctuation values started to trend downward and eventually oil stabilized at between 2-3 quarts. Suspected a sensor problem as other parameters (psi and temperature) were normal. Notified dispatch and maintenance. By now we were directly overhead ZZZ. Captain elected to divert into ZZZ1 as a precaution to have maintenance verify that indeed it was a sensor problem. Descending through approximately 8;000 ft; oil quantity returned to 23 quarts. Uneventful landing on runway 18R. Maintenance verified that it was a faulty sensor. Refueled and flew to ZZZ1.
