Narrative:
We parked at the gate and shut down the left engine and completed as much of the shut down flow as possible. I kept the right engine operating since we were at a jetway with power available. The ground crew took a very long time to hook us up. In fact I got the attention of the outbound crew and signaled them to ask the ground crew to hook us up. I am under the impression that the need to hook up to power should be a surprise to no one at this point in time. As we waited for power to be hooked up I noticed the xflow inhibit message on our EICAS and realized that someone was trying to fuel the aircraft with the right engine operating. We still had passengers in the process of deplaning at the time. I immediately began to crank the APU and instructed the first officer to open the service door and tell the fueler to unhook. I then shut down the right engine.
