Narrative:
After landing runway 22; exited on hotel and told by tower to taxi to gate. Once crossing runway 08; on the south side of the approach end of runway 08 the chart appears that hotel and golf become one; but in reality there is an island that splits the two but does not show that on the chart. When crossing runway 08 you can go left (east) of the island and it is golf and to the right is; I think; hotel. We went left because it was shorter to the gate. What made me start thinking was there were men working on the side of golf and I thought it was unusual that the tower did not say something about men working. ATIS said no taxiway closures in that area but NOTAMS did show taxiway G closed at the terminal ramp; which I think was the one we taxied in on. I did not realize that until I got to the gate and started to research the NOTAMS closer and found there was one more closure than usual that I missed earlier. Because the way the chart depicts the two taxiways; I'm not sure that part of golf was the one that was closed but would suspect it because the men working. Don't just trust the ATIS for all the closures and check the NOTAMS closer. There have been the same closures for some time and I did not catch the G taxiway closure. Clarification of the way G and H merge together. For once the tower did not give specific instructions taxiing to the gate but rather said; 'taxi to your gate.' taxi route seems to merge together south of approach end on chart.

Title: An air carrier crew exited ELP Runway 8 onto Taxiway G and turned left entering the terminal ramp on a track requiring prior approval. Taxiway G enters the terminal ramp west of an island not depicted on the commercial chart.
