Narrative:

After wading through the 13 pages of notams we came across 13/3 jfk that says that the CAT3 to 4R is not available. Weather was 100 overcast and about a mile. We contemplated briefing a CAT2 approach but I was concerned about what made the CAT3 not applicable that would allow the CAT2 to be functional. As it turned out the weather came up to 600 and 1 so we did a CAT1 approach. During our discussion of this item the dispatcher commented to us that the NOTAM was in fact from 2006 originally and not 2008 as it showed. It seems this NOTAM is not applicable unless there is something else with our equipment that makes it such. I would recommend deleting it from our NOTAM list if you cannot find another reason to include it. Also--since the notams are so lengthy is there some way to prioritize them in a more user-friendly fashion? The ACARS prints these in 3 separate streams but it requires crews to be aware to engage print after each of the previous two streams of messages. The last stream has what seem to be more critical items vs the first 10 pages or so that refer to taxiway signs; windsocks etc..... It would be easy to miss this third page over the printer if you weren't with a good copilot who knew to print it 3 times.
