Narrative:
Cleared to taxi away from push position, right turn on the inner taxiway behind a widebody transport and follow it to 13R. Note: we share an alley with another air carrier between terminals near intersection ma. Usually a clearance to taxi is followed by a comment: give way to, inbound, or left, or right, or M/a, or north then follow the comment applied to widebody transport. No other aircraft mentioned. After widebody transport passed ma and we moved up from our position towards ma and observed large transport Y turning inbound at ma from the outer at a good rate with no signs of slowing. We stopped our aircraft. Large transport Y continued in to air carrier terminal without slowing, passing his left wing tip about 3' in front of our radome. While we realize ground doesn't usually control the alley, it is significant that we didn't know where large transport Y parked. No mention was made of large transport Y being inbound at ma and since we were underway, large transport Y made no attempt to slow down in spite of fact we were a potential conflict and 3' more and ma would have been blocked by 2 aircraft nose to nose. Prudence and courtesy should be displayed by all crews!
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LGT HAD CLOSE CALL WITH ANOTHER LGT ON RAMP PRIOR TO ENTERING TAXIWAY.
Narrative: CLRED TO TAXI AWAY FROM PUSH POSITION, RIGHT TURN ON THE INNER TAXIWAY BEHIND A WDB AND FOLLOW IT TO 13R. NOTE: WE SHARE AN ALLEY WITH ANOTHER ACR BETWEEN TERMINALS NEAR INTXN MA. USUALLY A CLRNC TO TAXI IS FOLLOWED BY A COMMENT: GIVE WAY TO, INBOUND, OR L, OR R, OR M/A, OR N THEN FOLLOW THE COMMENT APPLIED TO WDB. NO OTHER ACFT MENTIONED. AFTER WDB PASSED MA AND WE MOVED UP FROM OUR POSITION TOWARDS MA AND OBSERVED LGT Y TURNING INBOUND AT MA FROM THE OUTER AT A GOOD RATE WITH NO SIGNS OF SLOWING. WE STOPPED OUR ACFT. LGT Y CONTINUED IN TO ACR TERMINAL WITHOUT SLOWING, PASSING HIS LEFT WING TIP ABOUT 3' IN FRONT OF OUR RADOME. WHILE WE REALIZE GND DOESN'T USUALLY CTL THE ALLEY, IT IS SIGNIFICANT THAT WE DIDN'T KNOW WHERE LGT Y PARKED. NO MENTION WAS MADE OF LGT Y BEING INBOUND AT MA AND SINCE WE WERE UNDERWAY, LGT Y MADE NO ATTEMPT TO SLOW DOWN IN SPITE OF FACT WE WERE A POTENTIAL CONFLICT AND 3' MORE AND MA WOULD HAVE BEEN BLOCKED BY 2 ACFT NOSE TO NOSE. PRUDENCE AND COURTESY SHOULD BE DISPLAYED BY ALL CREWS!
