Narrative:
This was the first time I worked on a B737-700. I have previous -300 and -800 experience. The aircraft required two nose landing gear (nlg) tires. Parts support was unable to locate a company part number for B737-700 nlg tire/wheel assembly and after some research informed me that the B737-800 nlg wheel/tire assembly was effective for the aircraft I was working. I did not verify this information myself. I; and another aircraft maintenance technician; installed the two B737-800 nlg tire/wheel assemblies and the aircraft was later released for service. I was informed in may 2009 of the mistake and was told the correct wheels had been subsequently installed. I was not told how the error was discovered.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: Two Mechanics report they installed two B737-800 nose wheel tires on a B737-700 nose landing gear. The tire description and effectivity in their illustrated parts catalog (IPC); was the same for the -700 and -800.
