Narrative:
Cleared for takeoff runway 25R and told that another jet departing simultaneously on 25L would be turning south. During climbout the other jet was abeam our aircraft separated only by runway centerline distance of 25L and 25R. The aircraft remained this distance for about a minute until turning south well upwind. The jet appeared to be on a 25L departure that did not turn south for a considerable distance upwind after takeoff. Received descend TCAS RA during this departure procedure. It appeared that when tower realized that the other jet was not turning immediately -- which was the impression they gave us -- they issued them instructions to maintain visual separation. This was a very uncomfortable situation which could have easily been worse had there been a crosswind present at the time of departure
