Narrative:
During the pushback; aircraft bucked a little as we passed over the line of drain channel; the tow bar broke and we had an aircraft breakaway with a headset breakaway and loss of communications. The jolt was fairly significant. I saw the tug stop. The tug driver gave me the hand signal to stop; and I gingerly applied brakes and stopped the aircraft. We called for maintenance to come out and inspect the nose gear for damage. At the same time of the breakaway; we got a fws fwc 1 fault ECAM. We contacted maintenance control and tried numerous resets but no fix. We returned to the gate and flight continued without further incident 2+hours late.
Original NASA ASRS Text
