Narrative:
The day before scheduled to fly ZZZ to ZZZ1 while checking maintenance history for a B757-200; I discovered a deferred item; for an inoperative PCU. After lengthy discussion with maintenance control; I concluded they were unable or unwilling to schedule a maintenance event to fix this problem. This item was written up in july 2009. As of three days later; current routing showed over 20 flights scheduled with 10 of them through maintenance bases. According to current routing; the only maintenance scheduled is at ZZZ2 on the 31st with contract maintenance for cabin write-ups only. In my opinion; this policy of flying aircraft around the system; repeatedly in and out of maintenance bases while failing to address serious mechanical write ups is irresponsible; dangerous and unnecessary. Yet we find time to schedule cabin maintenance. While I agree the 757 cabins are in grave need of overhaul; I suggest our priorities are misdirected.
