Narrative:
While holding ATC called and informed us that we were farther west of the holding pattern than we were supposed to be. We checked the FMS but were unable to find anything wrong with the information we had entered. On the inbound leg the FMS gave us a scratch pad message unable holding airspace. We made manual turns on the subsequent legs and made a logbook entry upon landing.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737-800's FMC would not fly a holding pattern at FL270. After checking the FMC programming; the FMC returned the message 'Unable Holding Airspace;' the flight crew manually flew the holding pattern.
