Narrative:
Cleared for takeoff on runway 36R with right turn to 020 degrees. During takeoff roll noticed an aircraft takeoff from runway 35 on east side of field with left turn towards northwest, an large transport Y. This procedure at dfw has the potential for a great tragedy. Aircraft departing to the west should not be taking off from the east runways while at the same time aircraft departing east are taking off from the west runways. This same insane procedure is also used upon arrival at dfw with aircraft arriving from the east landing on west runways and aircraft arriving from the west landing on east runways--only because their respective terminals are on that side of the field. These arrival and departure procedures at dfw have created a potential for a disastrous midair collision and must be revised, even if it becomes necessary to taxi to the other side of the field!
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLT CREW COMPLAINT ABOUT CROSS OVER DEPS OFF PARALLEL RWYS.
Narrative: CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 36R WITH RIGHT TURN TO 020 DEGS. DURING TKOF ROLL NOTICED AN ACFT TKOF FROM RWY 35 ON E SIDE OF FIELD WITH LEFT TURN TOWARDS NW, AN LGT Y. THIS PROC AT DFW HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR A GREAT TRAGEDY. ACFT DEPARTING TO THE W SHOULD NOT BE TAKING OFF FROM THE E RWYS WHILE AT THE SAME TIME ACFT DEPARTING E ARE TAKING OFF FROM THE W RWYS. THIS SAME INSANE PROC IS ALSO USED UPON ARR AT DFW WITH ACFT ARRIVING FROM THE E LNDG ON W RWYS AND ACFT ARRIVING FROM THE W LNDG ON E RWYS--ONLY BECAUSE THEIR RESPECTIVE TERMINALS ARE ON THAT SIDE OF THE FIELD. THESE ARR AND DEP PROCS AT DFW HAVE CREATED A POTENTIAL FOR A DISASTROUS MIDAIR COLLISION AND MUST BE REVISED, EVEN IF IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO TAXI TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIELD!
