Narrative:
Operating at cruise FL340 direct to szw abeam gnv. We were looking at company; also going to our destination; just off to the left also level at FL340. ZJX center issued us a clearance to climb to climb to FL360. I assumed it was due to our close spacing with company. After checking our altitude capability we read back the clearance. ZJX later asked our altitude. We reported climbing to FL360. ZJX told us the climb was for company and to descend back to FL340. We told him we heard our call sign and read the clearance back. He said 'no problem' and issued a climb to company; who had not previously read back or initiated a climbout of FL340. We continue to have problems with similar flight numbers operating the same areas at the same time. We used the proper altitude verification procedures and ATC read back; but that doesn't help when the center is confused by our flight number system.
