Narrative:

On taxi out to takeoff; winds reported as calm. Just prior to taking the runway for takeoff; tower reported winds of 300/4 KTS. This equated to approximately a 1 KT tailwind component and necessitated a max-power takeoff. The crew noted no engine exceedance on takeoff or climbout. VNAV was selected at 1500 ft. After leveling at cruise altitude of FL310; the crew noted a right engine exceedance of 889 degrees. All engine parameter were observed to be normal. Contacted maintenance via commercial radio phone patch.
