Narrative:
I helped at least a couple of mechanics on doing operational tests of the emergency locater transmitter (ELT) beacon system on multiple ATR-72 aircraft 'a'-checks. I do not know which mechanics signed for the operational test of the ELT system on the job cards instead of signing 'not-applicable' (north/a) in the sign-off blocks. I did help perform operational tests of the ELT system per the amm; although no test was required. I did help to do operational tests again later and read the job card from realizing the possible error that had made on all the previous 'a'-checks. The job card was a little unclear as to the effectivity and unclear that the second page detailing the operational test was a continued section from the portable ELT operations test.

Title: A Lead Mechanic and another Mechanic report on the confusion with and misunderstanding of job cards issued for the portable Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) tests on ATR-72 aircraft during 'A'-Checks.
