Narrative:
During the night on an 'a' check; the #2 battery for an A320 was replaced following the amm 24-38-51-401. Upon boarding aircraft for departure to gate from hangar; the taxi crew smelled a very hot smell; upon further investigation found the #2 battery just installed earlier in the night was smoking and very hot to touch. This battery was then replaced again for the second time.
