Narrative:
During landing with a CFI-applicant student the left main gear tire popped upon braking action. Maintained control on the runway; but skidded past the hold bars due to the tire failure. Was unable to exit the runway with the tire damage. Departing jet traffic had already lifted off and was well away; so no near miss occurred. Operations came out to lift the wheel onto a cart and tow the aircraft back to the ramp. Airport was closed for about ten minutes.
