The engine threw a piston connecting rod. I made an emergency landing safely. No injury or damage. Upon further review I noticed the airworthiness certificate was restricted in 1990 and my medical had expired.

Title: A Private Pilot of a Maule made an emergency off airport landing following the catastrophic failure of an engine connecting rod.
Narrative: The engine threw a piston connecting rod. I made an emergency landing safely. No injury or damage. Upon further review I noticed the Airworthiness Certificate was restricted in 1990 and my medical had expired.
