Narrative:
I was flying from my home field to jwy and both airports are in the dallas/ft worth area; and are only 30 or so miles apart. The weather was marginal with a thin cloud deck at around 900AGL; so I filed an IFR flight plan. Once above the clouds the weather was clear; but the cloud deck remained below as I was vectored towards jwy. Near my destination I was cleared direct 'gadte' intersection for the GPS 36 into jwy. I had printed out the approach plate for jwy and of course gadte was there. However; when I went to select the approach on my garmin 430 the gadte transition was not available. I asked for; and received; direct herno and did a procedure turn there. Unfortunately; the database subscription on my GPS had expired and the approach had changed in the meantime. While there was no safety of flight issue (I was above the clouds and only entered the clouds after passing herno intersection on a segment of the approach which had not changed) it could have been an issue if I was in worse weather and/or in an area I didn't know well.
