Narrative:
On a flight severe wake turbulence was experienced on the descent to the cleared altitude of 8000 feet. After recovery from the wake upset and altitude loss; ATC notified of a possible pilot deviation at 7600 feet questioning clearance to 8000. After loss of altitude and as soon as the aircraft was stabilized; immediate corrective action to 8000 feet was made.
