Narrative:
Aircraft X was a departure eastbound climbing to FL240. Aircraft X advised of pressure problems and had to delay his climb; advised he needed to return and declared an emergency. Aircraft X was cleared via right turn (higher terrain to his left) and was asked if he could maintain altitude of 160; aircraft X replied he could. Radar contact was lost (radar is marginal at this altitude in this area); and aircraft X was advised of that; approximately 5 minutes later he was re-identified in the area of higher terrain north of his last position; and returned and landed safely. As the d-side ojti; I was providing instruction to my developmental; who has never dealt with an emergency; also I was assisting the r-side with communication with the area flm; keeping him updated on the aircraft status and needs.
