Narrative:
After blocking in; I went into ops to get the weather; runway condition report; talk to dispatch; and get performance data for our next leg. When I returned to the aircraft the first officer informed me that the engine inlet cover had melted on the #2 engine inlet and the #1 engine inlet cover had melted duct tape on the inlet. The first officer informed me that we had left the engine anti-ice on. We apparently forgot to complete the engine shutdown checklist. We wrote up the residue on the inlets in the log book. We operate in a very high workload environment and there are millions of distractions. We apparently got distracted when running the shutdown checklist and did not complete it.
