Narrative:
On approach the captain called for flaps eight. When I selected the flaps to eight the EICAS message for flaps fail came on. We ran the appropriate checklist then decided that the best course of action would be to continue on the approach as the runway was long enough and multiple breaking action reports came in as 'good'. I called the flight attendant and told her what was going on. I then talked to the passengers; telling them that we had an equipment failure and that we would be making an emergency landing. I also informed them that we would have trucks along the runway but it should be a routine landing. The flight continued uneventfully and we taxied to the gate with no problems.
