Narrative:
Upon landing our maintenance department informed us a flap vane was found at the departure airport. I inspected the aircraft and discovered it was off our aircraft so we applied for a ferry permit to return to that airport for repair. The preflight procedure has the flaps placed at 12 degrees for inspection and in that position one can not see the vanes. I recommend the flaps be placed in the full down position; at 40 degrees to inspect the vanes.

Title: WW1124 Captain is informed after landing; that a flap vane was found at the departure airport that may belong to his aircraft. Inspection reveals that a vane is missing and a ferry permit is obtained to fly back for repairs.
