Narrative:

Flying vny 7 SID the with copilot as the pilot flying; I was having an issue with new efb installed onboard the aircraft. The copilot got the radio call and changed the FMS to reflect the change. I allowed myself to remain out of the loop for about one minute and the controller asked where we were going. We were cleared via J9 after dag VOR. I corrected and told controller it was an FMS entry error. He gave us a vector to get back on course.
