Narrative:
Tower '31R position and hold.' a very long time passed; 1 or 2 minutes and there was nothing on the runway in front of me. Tower cleared my takeoff. At rotation tower commanded to abort takeoff. I made the full stop with lots of rubber. I then looked up and saw another plane flying missed. I believe what happened was when I was 'position and hold;' I was forgotten about. I was about to call tower to sat 'still holding' when I was cleared takeoff 31R. I think another plane was cleared to land 31R and I was commanded to abort. Nobody landed behind me; but there was a plane overhead. I don't know whether it was a close call or not. I think the plane overhead was on 'go-around.' there was no clear infraction from tower what happened. I would like to know if something unsafe happened.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A small airplane pilot was given a 'Position and Hold' on RHV's Runway 31R. After one to two minutes of holding in position a takeoff clearance was issued followed by a mandatory 'Abort' as the pilot rotated because of an aircraft directly over his aircraft.
