Narrative:
The ramp lighting that is positioned on top of the new east terminal is excessively bright and aimed directly into the cockpit of aircraft taxiing into the new gates. The lights were so bright and blinding that both the first officer and I were unable to see the unlit signals given by the marshalers that were positioned under or near the end of the jetway. We had to stop the aircraft for approximately 5 minutes on the edge of the safety zone until the marshalers could locate lighted wands and position themselves so we could see them. This situation will be compounded and maybe even unsafe when the ramp area is wet.
