Narrative:
Climbing through FL180 we heard a loud bang; followed by 'engine right comp stall' alert. Followed the checklist for this procedure. Compressor stall continued and 'engine right comp stall' alert came on again. We proceeded to follow through with 'engine fail/shut down in flight' checklist; secured the engine and declared an emergency. Landed without further incident.

Title: A B717 Captain reported a loud bang followed by a ENG R COMP STALL alert. Following the second alert; the engine was shut down and an emergency declared.
Narrative: Climbing through FL180 we heard a loud bang; followed by 'ENG R COMP STALL' alert. Followed the checklist for this procedure. Compressor stall continued and 'ENG R COMP STALL' alert came on again. We proceeded to follow through with 'Engine Fail/Shut Down in Flight' checklist; secured the engine and declared an emergency.
