Narrative:

Upon arriving at the aircraft I noticed the weather had turned to snow and it developed into a fairly strong snow fall with a restriction to visibility being observed. We checked ATIS several times and noticed it never reported the snow. As timely and accurate information is critical to safe flight operations; we queried ATC as to the lack of an accurate ATIS report. He said that they can't control it; it is automated. I asked if it is obviously wrong; as it was now; can they over-ride it? He said no and really did not seem terribly interested in doing anything to correct this gross discrepancy. I am noticing that ATIS reports at a lot of airports do not reflect current conditions in any form of late.
