Narrative:
Vectors to final, approach control asked if airport in sight. Replied yes. No further contact so continued last heading descending to 3000' MSL. Discussed with first officer about no further clearance. Observed air carrier traffic 1-2 O'clock climbing. Asked center about it. No response. Asked again and got response saying he had been trying to get us for past 5 mi and someone evidently had a stuck microphone. We were completing 8 day international flight with 2 xings of dateline and time zone changes from west coast to tokyo to eastern to tokyo and back, so maybe a little slow to recognize a subtle problem. This one is not always easily recognizable if it is your transmitter or not. Altitude control wasn't all it should have been. Leveled off 200-300' high for a while.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR WDB HAD STUCK MIC AND PROBABLY MISSED SOME VECTOR CLRNCS. ALSO UNDERSHOT AN ASSIGNED ALT.
Narrative: VECTORS TO FINAL, APCH CTL ASKED IF ARPT IN SIGHT. REPLIED YES. NO FURTHER CONTACT SO CONTINUED LAST HDG DSNDING TO 3000' MSL. DISCUSSED WITH F/O ABOUT NO FURTHER CLRNC. OBSERVED ACR TFC 1-2 O'CLOCK CLBING. ASKED CENTER ABOUT IT. NO RESPONSE. ASKED AGAIN AND GOT RESPONSE SAYING HE HAD BEEN TRYING TO GET US FOR PAST 5 MI AND SOMEONE EVIDENTLY HAD A STUCK MIC. WE WERE COMPLETING 8 DAY INTL FLT WITH 2 XINGS OF DATELINE AND TIME ZONE CHANGES FROM W COAST TO TOKYO TO EASTERN TO TOKYO AND BACK, SO MAYBE A LITTLE SLOW TO RECOGNIZE A SUBTLE PROB. THIS ONE IS NOT ALWAYS EASILY RECOGNIZABLE IF IT IS YOUR XMITTER OR NOT. ALT CTL WASN'T ALL IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. LEVELED OFF 200-300' HIGH FOR A WHILE.
