Narrative:

I was working local center and the weather was IFR; we were landing 8R and the arrivals on 8L were using the east cargo route to taxi to get to the gate. I had an arrival come in on 8R who parks in that east cargo ramp and my plan was to have him exit the runway and taxi via the north side so that traffic wouldn't be interrupted. Ground 2 was getting ready to combine to ground 3 and I had already coordinated what I was planning on doing. The aircraft exited the runway early and I turned him onto the taxiway; traffic was building up so I decided to cross him at the departure end that way no one would be stopped. By now both grounds were combined and it was pretty busy and the ground controller advised me that he had another aircraft that also needed to go that way and the other one worked so well so he suggested we do the same; I said ok since I felt it was going to help the operation. It was not until I crossed the second aircraft that I started thinking about the critical area and protecting them. I looked in the book and realized what I had done was illegal. Recommendation [is] everyone being up to date on protecting the ILS critical areas in IFR weather. I myself know now if the situation should arise again that that is wrong.
