Narrative:

Flight had MEL with left main and totalizer inoperative due to channel inoperative. MEL is unwieldy and very unworkable. It talks about other alternate means; but doesn't say what they are. The flight plan had slp in the fuel column so sticking the tanks shouldn't apply. However; local maintenance called maintenance control and they said the slope was in limits. Why doesn't it say the limits in the MEL? Am I correct in saying that I could depart on the next flight without maintenance if I use an alternate means like the fueler defueling and then filling the tank? There are also procedures for initial placard and subsequent procedures but they are not separated in the MEL.
