Narrative:
On a flight from ord during flight I consumed a crew meal beef dinner (we received catering at ord) and noticed within thirty to sixty minutes after eating; an uneasy feeling in my stomach. I was flying with a first officer at the time and both the alternate captain and first officer were sleeping (four man crew due to duration of flight). I became ill and told first officer that I was sick and to take over. I immediately had diarrhea and started vomiting. We were fortunate to have three dead heading crew members and I asked if one of them could take my place as I was sick. My condition continued to worsen and totally incapacitated me for the duration of the flight (six plus hours); due to ongoing vomiting and diarrhea. Upon reaching our destination; I was treated by a doctor for a severe bacterial infection; dehydration and diarrhea. I have been told that my company is investigating (or following up) with the catering company.
