Narrative:
Cleared for take off on runway 34 runway heading. ATC said traffic off of departure end has you in sight; they will be left of the centerline. After takeoff; shortly after acceleration height; we got an RA. The RA was monitor vertical speed; +2500 feet. I started the climb as I spotted the traffic. The traffic was a high wing plane in a turn toward our flight path. As an added measure; I turned the aircraft 45 degrees to the right. The turn was absolutely needed to maintain a safe distance from the traffic. We were around 500 feet away from the other plane as we climbed through its altitude. We told the tower that we were turning for an RA and their response was 'contact departure'. After clearing traffic we returned to our heading. I was concerned that the tower did not respond to our RA so I called them back on the #2 radio to make sure they knew we had to deviate from our heading because of the RA. The controller's response was 'ya; I heard you. The other aircraft had you in sight. Is there a problem?' the voice was very sarcastic. I said no and continued with my flight duties. We were given a clearance into another aircrafts flight path. The tower should have asked and verified if we had traffic in sight before giving a clearance directly into another aircrafts path of flight.
