Narrative:

One idg was deferred earlier that day. Deferral requires running APU for entire flight to use its AC generator. In-flight received APU oil press and I; as the pilot not flying; ran the checklist. In response to 'APU required?' I answered yes because that made us single generator if shut off. Also; I answered yes because it is required by the idg deferral: 'c) APU generator is operated continuously throughout flight' land at nearest suitable airport.idg deferral and APU oil press in flight caused diversion. Initially picked the first airport as a diversion as it was 90 miles away and met the point in time criteria. Then tried another airport because it [was] as close or closer (within a few miles of same distance) and diverted there. As this I believe had not elevated to an emergency all I asked for was priority handling to the airport. The reason for this was we had just enough time as it was to run through all the checklists and notify dispatch and maintenance control of our diversion. Also given our location I wanted ATC to be able to move planes out of our way without causing major conflicts to get us down. This worked well for all concerned.

Title: When dispatched with one IDG inoperative; a CRJ-200 diverted when the APU had to be shut down for low oil pressure thus reducing the aircraft to a single AC electrical source.
