Narrative:

L1 windscreen developed fire on window heating element on climbout (passing 33;000 ft climbing to assigned altitude of 37;000 ft). Window heat secured to L1 windscreen (it cracked outer pane top to bottom shortly thereafter). Flight crew complied with QRH procedures (electrical fire & cracked windscreen); notified ATC that flight was going to return to [departure airport]; notified operations; maintenance; and purser/passengers of the nature of the problem/reason for return. Aircraft returned without further incident.

Title: A B737-800 Captain reported a fire on the L1 cockpit window heating element during climbout. The crew ran the procedure; coordinated with Operations and Maintenance; and returned to departure airport.
