Narrative:
While conducting a night-landing on runway 22 at newport state airport (UUU); on or about the time the main gear wheels touched down; a deer; which had run onto the runway; suddenly appeared; illuminated by the landing light a few feet directly in front of the aircraft. After the deer disappeared beneath the cowling I felt the aircraft shudder. I continued with the landing; rolled to the end of the runway; and cleared the runway via a taxiway. The engine was still running after the impact. While taxiing the aircraft; I transmitted a warning to all aircraft in the area via the airport CTAF. After shutting the airplane down; I walked briskly back to the runway to determine the final location of the deer; which I could now see in the distance; lay dead in the center of the runway. I noticed another airplane in the area; and dialed 911 to get help clearing the deer as I ran back to the airplane to transmit another warning. Upon reaching the airplane; I transmitted another warning; this time specifying a dead deer was on runway 22 and made contact with the inbound aircraft. The inbound aircraft aborted its landing; and eventually landed on another available runway. Local officials arrived shortly after; assisted with the deer and traffic; and the airport was eventually reopened.
