Narrative:
I was conducting on the job training (OJT) when a VFR aircraft radioed on frequency that he needed vectors to the nearest airport it was at that time that I suspended OJT and gave the aircraft a vector towards the nearest airport and inquired what the problem that he was encountering; the aircraft replied 'engine failure'; gave the pilot emergency information about the airport [and] told him it was probably best to land on the runway from the southwest of the field he replied; 'negative have the highway in sight doesn't look like were going to make it to the airport' it was about this time that I lost radio communications with the aircraft; luckily there was a another aircraft approximately 10 east at FL220 that I had relay to the emergency to query him of his altitude; the relay aircraft replied that he had landed on the highway safely and was on the median.
