Narrative:

On climb out we received EICAS message: hyd sys press left only. Followed checklist for system failure. Leak continued with the ptu failing soon after. Continued climb out with captain making me pilot flying while he called dispatch and maintenance control. Decision was made to return to our departure airport. Coordinated with ATC to burn off fuel for a maximum landing weight visual approach and landing. All checklists were followed which included the alternate extension of gear and flaps; and a 20 flaps landing at 198;000 pounds. Approach and landing was uneventful except for hot brakes. The aircraft cleared the runway on the high speed taxiway; came to a stop while the fire department and maintenance checked the brakes. Followed hot brakes checklist which required the aircraft to not be moved for one hour. Used 198;000 pounds and 150 KTS for hot brake calculations. After that time expired we were towed back to the gate. Found a broken hydraulic line in left main wheel well.
