Narrative:
Left engine developed compressor stall characteristics at approximately 800 feet AGL. Declared an emergency and continued the approach and landing. When the engine was reduced to idle; the condition ceased. We were inspected by the fire department and proceeded the gate without further problems.

Title: A319 Captain experiences left engine compressor stalls at 800 feet during approach. An emergency is declared and approach is continued to a normal landing.
Narrative: Left engine developed compressor stall characteristics at approximately 800 feet AGL. Declared an emergency and continued the approach and landing. When the engine was reduced to idle; the condition ceased. We were inspected by the fire department and proceeded the gate without further problems.
