Narrative:

A student pilot I endorsed for solo cross country flight made an uneventful precautionary off airport landing within about 6 miles of home plate; due to rough running engine. No damage and no injuries sustained. I need to put more emphasis on planning for contingencies such as getting off course or encountering stronger than forecast winds aloft when calculating fuel consumption. Also need to ensure pilots call ahead to the intended fuel provider at the airports of intended landings to ensure availability and times of operation.
