Narrative:
Due to coast clouds and fog I was being vectored by san diego approach control prior to landing at montgomery field. Approach released me and told me to turn towards the coast, find mount soledad and continue VFR to montgomery. These instructions left me between miramar and lindbergh's traffic patterns and encroaching fog bank. I took the safest route possible in order to protect my passengers and myself and the other landing and departing aircraft.
