Narrative:

While providing passenger carrying operations for an air race event; the aircraft suffered a progressive failure. Initial indications were similar to carburetor ice. I checked the carburetor ice lever; mixture and magnetos. The problem got worse. I declared a mayday and planned for a straight in approach to the runway. I reduced power as it got worse but still had oil pressure and the engine remained running. I landed uneventfully and cleared the runway and terminated the flight.
