Narrative:
Enroute during cruise flight the low center hydraulic quantity EICAS message appeared. Confirmed the quantity was low and completed required checklist. After contacting dispatch and maintenance and considering heavy thunderstorm activity surrounding and our planned destination; elected to declare an emergency and proceeded to an alternate. The approach and landing were unremarkable. Stopped on the runway to have airfield rescue and fire fighting check for fluid and fire. None reported. Checked operation of nose wheel steering and proceeded to the gate.

Title: A B777 EICAS altered LOW CENTER HYD QUANTITY. Due to thunderstorms at the filed destination the flight diverted to an enroute airport; declared an emergency and landed safely.
