Narrative:

We were on approach to 31C in mdw. Approach told us it was a smooth ride in on the approach below the cloud layer. He descended us below the cloud layer. We could see the ground; it was not raining. We were inside runts descending to the FAF; hobel. The controller stated a windshear alert and then we got the windshear warning. I was the pilot flying. The captain was on the controls with me and we performed the windshear recovery and than a go-around. We were handed off to approach. They vectored us north away from the weather. We were in and out of 'ACARS no comm' messages low over the lake. We elected to divert to our alternate. Dispatch wanted us to go to rfd.
