Narrative:
[I] entered the class B airspace from the west; with clearance to precede direct ZZZ (destination airport). Approximately 5 NM west of ZZZ was told to contact tower. Although I expected I had been handed off; the reaction (apparent surprise) by tower leads me to suspect I may have been a 'cold call' with no handoff from approach. My initial call included '5 west for landing' which elicited a 'say again' type of call. Upon repeating my position; tower asked my aircraft type and speed; then queried the other aircraft on downwind (both left and right patterns). Upon receiving those results; I was cleared to land #1; and heard the controller issue landing sequence #2 and #3 with appropriate instructions to the others. #2 was to follow the jet on right base (me). As I was turning on an approximately 1 NM final; the #2 aircraft; a van's rv (maybe a 4 or 8) was rolling out slightly in front of and beside me from a left base-to-final turn. Seeing this; I pointed the conflict out to tower; and maintained clearance by offsetting to the right - after a brief moment to evaluate and listen to what was happening; and not observing the rv initiate a go-around; I powered up and executed a go-around; clearing to the right. No further conflicts ensued. Apparently the rv turned base; then final; without first obtaining visual contact with the traffic he/she was to follow (me). Tower's clearances were clear; obviously tower did not observe this happening; I know the pattern was busy; and I don't know what the gpm facility has for equipment or staffing. I believe the coordination (or lack of) from approach to tower contributed to this setup.

Title: EMB500 Captain reports NMAC with Vans RV during base to final turn. RV pilot was instructed by Tower to follow the jet but did not comply. The Tower is made aware of the conflict but no resolution is offered and the reporter goes around.
